Fox, Licensed Realtor Now Open Families Move Into Silwan Jerusalem (JTA) — A dozen Jewish families and as many as 30 single men triumphantly established residence in five buildings previously occupied by Arabs in Silwan, until now a totally Arab enclave within Jerusalem's municipal boundaries. The Jews arrived at dawn under massive police protec- tion after Attorney General Yosef Harish ruled that they held legal title to the premises. But Palestinian activist Faisal Husseini, a resident of east Jerusalem, condemn- ed the occupation. He said the Jewish settlers were "destroying the peace pro- cess by unilateral action." According to an Israel Television report, Mr. Hus- seini has relayed instruc- tions to the Palestinian delegates now meeting with Israelis in Washington, to raise the issue immediately. Jewish squatters first took possession of the buildings in Silwan on Oct. 9. Most of them were evicted by police for security reasons. But a nucleus of settlers was allowed to remain in one of the buildings pending a legal decision on their claim to ownership. Although Mr. Harish found that they had indeed purchased the buildings, he recommended against their presence in Silwan on the grounds that it could trigger disturbances throughout east Jerusalem. Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek concurred. But the Cabinet, ignoring the attorney general's warn- ing, announced that any Jew who could prove ownership •of property in Silwan could live there. A village-like quarter hugging the Old City walls, Silwan is known to Jews as Ir David, or City of David, because it is located on what archaeologists say was the original site of Jerusalem in King David's time. A few Jews lived there in the early years of this cen- tury. None were left after the Arab riots in 1929. The recent incursion by settlers was the first attempt by Jews to move back. The buildings apparently were purchased from Arab owners. Only one was oc- cupied at the time. The Arab family that lived there has been evicted, but Jews are not allowed to take posses- sion pending a court hear- ing. Does this also apply to real estate advertising? ANSWER: Yes it does! It has helped clear up many previous misunderstandings when advertisers would mention some, but not all of the finan- cial costs of a property for sale. Remember when ads used to read like this: "FOR SALE — 3-bedroom home, only $60,000 with $6,000 down." Now, if you advertise down payment, you must also state the monthly payment and the interest rate. Tell all or tell nothing! TRUTH-IN-LENDING law requires specific dollar information when advertis- ing property. Please Phone Ray A.
