ter . . . But don't give him all '
the credit . . . his employee
teams rank among the tops
. . . Chuck's trait of always
surrounding himself with the
best available is an asset
started from the beginning
when he left as an IBM sales
rep, started the C.A. Muer
Corp. in 1964 and in 1965
opened four restaurants in
Detroit's then new Hotel
Pontchartrain . . . Pals West
Bloomfield is still another ex-
ample that Chuck Muer and
his ways haven't changed.
CONGRATS . . . to Buddy

anniversary . . .

LOU AND JOY LANDAU,
the Oak Park Candy Lady,
know that people do not con-
sider the needs of teen-agers
when holidays roll around .. .
but they're kids also, and are
too often forgotten by so
many.
These two wonderful people,
who every year think about
young folks, especially at holi-
day time, need our help again
for gifts to the boys and girls
at the Oakland County
Children's Village and the
Maxey Boys State Home .. .
The young folks won't have a
very happy holiday if dona-
tions don't come in for them
. . . At the village for example,
Lou and Joy have about 75
boys and 50 girls for whom
the holidays are horrible
because parents, relatives
and friends just don't bother
to remember . . . The state
provides almost nothing for
them at holiday -time and the
supervisors say that many of
the kids are so depressed it is
unbelievable.
Lou and Joy need anything
. . . socks, hats, shorts, gloves
and mittens, jeans, pj's, arts
and crafts, books, note pads,
tapes and records, T-shirts,
toiletries, shoes, slippers, gym
shoes, jackets and sweaters
. . . All items must be new
and unwrapped . . . Games,
comic books, playing cards
and models are super gifts.
Presents must be received
by Dec. 16, this Monday .. .
Checks to buy gifts can be
made out to Lou or Joy .. .
Call or write to them . . . Lou
and Joy Landau, 24231 Gard-
ner, Oak Park, MI 48237,
541-6884 . . . Your small gift
can make a big difference in
the holidays for these kids .. .
It's a wonderful project for
groups and individuals.
MANY TIMES a per-
former appearing at a bistro
will evoke such talk as, "I
could listen to her every
night!'
Fans of Suzi Marsh, appear-
ing Tuesday-Saturday at Ex-
calibur, Franklin Road off
Northwestern and 12 Mile,
with pianist Dan Warren as
the duo Suzi and Dan, are
now offered this opportunity.
The CD and cassette on
Musicworks called "Suzi"
were recorded at Alliance
Studio in Trenton featuring
standards like "summertime"
and "The Nearness of You,"
Eddie Cantor's "Making
Whoopie" "How High The
Moon" popularized by Ella
Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington's
great "Don't Get Around
Much Anymore," George and
Ira Gershwin's "How Long
Has This Been Going On"
and a good original written
by Dan, "Funny I Never
Noticed!'
Suzi's ability to go from soft
to power and low to high are
keynotes of her talented ways
in this recording, although
she is much better in person
. . . Her singing is consistent
and good . . . The background
of Danny Spencer, drums;
_ Dan Kolten, bass; Walt
Sheles, guitar; Jack Dryden,
bass; and Ross Pooley, sax; on
some numbers is not . . . This
also says something for Suzi's
vocalizing finesse . . . an abili-
ty to override a sometimes er-
ratic accompaniment . . . Jack
Dryden is on all numbers ex-
cept "How High The Moon!'
and "Funny I Didn't Notice,"
the latter on which Dan
Kalten and Walt Shimanski
only play.
Suzi and Dan at Excalibur
are an excellent duo . . . both
highly talented . . . Their
recording sort of makes you
want to see them in person.
LAST WEEK had many
people asking, "Where were
you on the day Pearl Harbor
was bombed Dec. 7, 1941?"
. . . Leo Barris says he and
three friends were at the
former Avenue Burlesque for
their regular Sunday happen-
ing watching Scurvy Miller
. . . The emcee blurted out
that Pearl Harbor had been
bombed while a gal strutted
her stuff across the stage .. .
They're still good friends and
with their wives all corn-
memorated the 50th anniver-
sary . . . Bill Zucker (Gerri),
Bill Rosen (Jeanette), Ruby
Kress (Adelle) and Leo
(Frieda).
CONGRATS . . . to Leon
Maloff . . . on his 70th
birthday.
WHY IS A little knowledge
a dangerous thing when what
you don't know won't hurt
you? . . . And if ignorance is
bliss, why aren't more folks
happy? 0
