rants like Sara's are also
susceptible.
"If we're going to be a first
class metropolitan area,
we're going to have to sup-
port these establishments,"
he said.
Mr. Goodman denied
rumors that he is receiving
subsidies to operate the res-
taurant. But, he said, he is
operating it solely for the
community's sake.
"When people have some-
thing like this, it's theirs,"
Mr. Goodman said.
Sara's is a well-known
meeting place in Detroit's
Jewish community, serving
breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Sandwiches at the eatery are
named after friends and
family of Mr. Goodman and
the restaurant is named for
his mother.
"We're not looking for
handouts," he said. "It's too
late when we have to close
and people say, 'We should
have supported Sara's.' " ❑
