Birmingham Hosts
Dec, 31 Party

Birmingham will host its
second annual First Night/
Birmingham, a family-
oriented celebration of the
arts on New Year's Eve.
Three acts will headline the
event. The Chenille Sisters, a
nationally-known vocal trio,
weave tight harmonies and
warm humor in a musical
evening.
The Prism Quartet uses
saxophones and a new elec-
tronic wind instrument in its
approach to chamber music.
It draws its repertoire from
classical, jazz and avant-garde
music.
Jimmy "Spoon Man" Krews
reincarnates a traditional
music art form into a comedy
performance.
First Night/Birmingham
also includes dance, mini-
musicals, and playlets. The
visual arts will be repre-
sented as well.
Assisted by the Junior
League of Birmingham, First
Night/Birmingham will offer
jugglers, mask making,
creative movement sessions,
and storytellers for children.
There will be other hands-on
artistry activities. Little Red
Riding Hood and Snoopy will
also be performed.
Older youth will enjoy a
teen dance with a DJ.
First Night/Birmingham is
a non-profit event, sponsored
in part by the Cultural Coun-
cil of Birmingham-Bloom-
field, local companies, and
individuals.
Entrance to all First Night
performances, including a
midnight New Year's celebra-
tion in Shain Park, is access-
ed with a special First Night
button. Buttons are on sale at
the Community House in Bir-
mingham, Birmingham and
Bloomfield Kroger stores, Bir-
mingham locations of Fideli-
ty Bank and Michigan Na-
tional Bank, Crowley's,

and Morels, both on Tele-
graph Road.
