The annual Shabbat obser- vance will focus on the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and its Allied Jewish Campaign, Detroit Jewry's major fund-raising appeal. Federation and Campaign leaders who will speak at area congregations Dec. 13 in- clude: Jeannie Weiner, Jewish Community Council president, Birmingham Tem- ple; and Sivan Maas, corn- munity shlichah, Temple Israel. Federation/Campaign Shabbat precedes the Super Sunday telephone appeal Dec. 15. Shaarey Zedek Sets Anniversary Congregation Shaarey Zedek's 130th anniversary celebration will take place 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 along with the Laker Chanukah Concert. The anniversary theme will be "Past and Future." Dottie Wagner, secretary of the congregation, has been appointed overall chairman and Gail Goodstein will be in charge of the commemorative aspect of the program. Joel and Lauren Bruss will serve as chairmen of the Laker Concert. The concert will feature the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Choir, Cantor Najman, the Youth Choir and the choir of Hillel Day School, under the direction of Eugene Zweig, in a premiere performance of Behold These Lights, a new work by Israeli composer Ray- mond Goldstein. An in- strumental ensemble, headed by Bernard Katz, will also participate. The Shaarey Zedek Youth Choir is directed by Susan Zweig; the choir of Hillel Day School is directed by Robin Lash. A candlelighting ceremony will be presented with past presidents of Shaarey Zedek, chairmen of the affiliate groups, and students of the religious school directed by Michael Wolf, director of Education and Youth. Rabbi Irwin Groner will deliver the commemorative address, "Our Past Inspires Our Future." The Laker Concert is presented under the auspices of the Shaarey Zedek Cultural Commission; Linda Zalla, chairperson. Judy Stulberg and Dr. Harold and Cynthia Daitch are co- chairmen of the Music Division. Admission to this event is open to the community.
