Max Fogelman,
Emanu-EI Founder

Max M.Fogelman, of
Southfield, died Nov. 19. He
was 75.
Mr. Fogelman was the
owner of Burton's Gal, a
ladies ready-to-wear. At one
time he owned stores in Har-
vard Row, Eastland, Wonder-
land and in Pontiac. He open-
ed the business in 1949 and
retired and sold the stores in
1975.
A founding member of Tem-
ple Emanu-El, Mr. Fogelman
was a past president of Tem-
ple Emanu-El Brotherhood
and sang with the adult choir.
He was a member of Temple
Beth El, volunteered for the
Jewish National Fund, at
Sinai Hospital, and taught
English as a second language
to Soviet immigrants.
He leaves his wife, Goldie of
Southfield.; sons and
daughters-in-law, Dr. Burton
and Rochelle of Southfield,
David and Marlene of Oak
Park; brother and sister-in-
law, Leo and Lenore_ of West
Bloomfield; sister and
brother-in-law, Sarah and
Fred Peltz of California; four
grandchildren.

Dr. Ben Marks

Ben Marks, of Bloomfield
Hills, died Nov. 16. He was
84.
A psychiatrist in private
practice, Dr. Marks also was
an instructor at the Harper
Hospital School of Nursing
and the Wayne State Uni-
versity School of Nursing.
From 1980-1983, he served
as clinical assistant pro-
fessor at the Wayne State
University Department of
Psychiatry. He joined the
Harper Hospital Psychiatric
Staff in 1950, and was one of
five psychiatrists who
started the hospital's
psychiatric unit.
Dr. Marks graduated in
1931 from the College of the
City of Detroit, and received
his medical degree from the
Detroit College of Medicine
in 1937.
He was a life member of
the Wayne County Medical
Society, the Michigan State
Medical Society, the Ameri-
can Medical Association, the
Michigan Psychiatric and
American Psychiatric
associations.
Dr. Marks leaves his wife,
Caroline; son and daughter-
in-law, Dr. Sanford and
Karen of Farmington Hills;
daughter, Sharron of Bran-
don, Fla.; stepdaughter,
Michelle Keresi; sisters,
Sylvia Shaer of Southfield,
Ada Lichtig of North Ridge,
Calif.; five grandchildren.
