Hosts Concert

Temple Israel will host the
second concert in the Schmier
Family Chamber Series 7:30
p.m. Nov. 17 at the temple.
The St. Clair Trio: Emanuelle
Boisvert, Detroit Symphony
concertmaster; Marcy
Chanteaux, assistant prin-
cipal cellist; and Pauline Mar-
tin, pianist, will perform.
Emmanuelle Boisvert was
the first woman to be ap-
pointed concertmaster of a
major orchestra.
Marcy Chanteaux played
cello with the Washington
National Symphony and
subsequently succeeded
Mischa Kottler as the Detroit
Symphony pianist.
Pauline Martin holds a doc-
tor of musical arts degree
from the University of
Michigan and has appeared
as soloist with numerous
orchestras.

Music Study Club
Hosts John Guinn

John Guinn, the music
critic of the Detroit Free Press,
will be the speaker at a
meeting of the Music Study
Club of Metropolitan Detroit
1 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Birm-
ingham Temple.
Mr. Guinn's program, "Con-
fessions of a Music Critic," a
lecture with piano demon-
stration, will be preceded by
dessert at 12:15. It is open to
the public for a donation.
John Guinn, who holds
bachelor and master of music
degrees from the University
of Notre Dame, has taught
music at the University of
Detroit and has served as
chairman of the music depart-
ment there. He has been
music critic for the Detroit
Free Press since 1975, and he
also has been Detroit cor-
respondent for Musical
America and Opera Canada
magazines. He has won the
Detroit Press Club Founda-
tion's award for distinguished
coverage of the fine arts three
times.
