John Guinn, who holds bachelor and master of music degrees from the University of Notre Dame, has taught music at the University of Detroit and has served as chairman of the music depart- ment there. He has been music critic for the Detroit Free Press since 1975, and he also has been Detroit cor- respondent for Musical America and Opera Canada magazines.
