Michigan Opera Theatre
main stage season will open
with the Detroit premiere of
Leonard Bernstein's Candide
Nov. 1-15 for 10 performances
at the Fisher Theatre.
In their MOT debuts,
Detroit-based actor John
Puchalski and tenor Dean
Anthony will portray several
of the ensemble characters.
Following Candide, MOT
will settle in the fictional
land of Titi-pu, Japan, for
Gilbert and Sullivan's operet-
ta, The Mikado. Fifteen per-
formances are scheduled Nov.
15-Dec. 1 at the Fisher.

Youth Symphony
Holds Concert

The Metropolitan Youth
Symphony will perform a
classical concert 4:30 p.m.
Nov. 17 at Livonia Churchill
High School, Newburgh Road
north of Joy Road.
The 260 young musicians
range from the 5th through
the 12th grades and live in
over 40 different communities
in the four-county area. Alan
McNair is concertmaster of
the Rochester Symphony and
director of the Troy High
School Orchestra; Richard
Piippo, conductor of the Con-
cert Orchestra, is a cellist as
well as teacher and conductor
at Wayne State University;
Jackqueline Coleman, con-
ductor of the String Or-
chestra, is director of the mid-
dle school music program at
Detroit Country Day School.

Musicians League
Holds Recital

The second annual Adult
Student Recital sponsored by
the Detroit Musicians League
will take place 2 p.m. Nov. 10
at Marygrove College.
Eleven pianists and four
singers will participate,
representing seven teachers.
There is no admission charge.

Set For Library

"Middle Eastern Cooking"
will be held 7:30-9 p.m. Nov.
12 at the West Bloomfield
Township Library, 4600

Bloomfield.
Julia Najor, author of Baby-
lonian Cuisine, will share her
knowledge of Middle Eastern
culture and cookery.
