JNF Honors Ypsi's
Brian Campbell

Congressman Howard
Wolpe, D-Mich., will address
a recruitment meeting for the
United Jewish Appeal Young
Leadership Cabinets' Eighth
National Washington Con-
ference 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at Thm-
ple Beth El.
A seventh-term member of
the U.S. House of Represen-
tatives, Mr. Wolpe is chair-
man of both the bipartisan
Northeast-Midwest Congres-
sional Coalition and the
Democratic Caucus Task
Force on the Environment
and Energy. He is a member
of the Congressional Caucus
for Soviet Jews and the House
Science, Space and
Technology Committee and
was chairman of the House
Africa Subcommittee where
he was an advocate for Ethio-
pian Jews.
Prior to his election to Con-
gress, Mr. Wolpe taught at
Western Michigan University
and was a member of the
Michigan House of Represen-
tatives. He is a former consul-
tant to the State Department
Foreign Service Institute and
the Peace Corps.

He is an advocate for
military and economic aid for
Israel and the opponent of
sales of sophisticated
weapons to Arab states.
The conference, for men and
women age 25-45, will take
place March 15-17 at the
Washington Hilton Hotel.
The three-day event will in-
clude talks by Washington ex-
perts, Middle East observers,
Israeli officials, government
leaders, legislators and
Jewish scholars; entertain-
ment and celebrations.
Suzi Alterman is Detroit
area chairman of the
Women's Young Leadership
Cabinet and Region 2 recruit-
ment chairman for the
Washington conference. Den-
nis Bernard is the Detroit
men's chairman. Local con-
ference recruitment chairmen
are Gilbert Borman and Lynn
Sachse.
Participation in the con-
ference is limited. Persons
who register before Jan. 1
will be eligible for a reduced
fee. Hotel fees are extra. Per-

(Children of Holocaust-
Survivors Association In
Michigan) annual fund-
raising event, "Triumph of

14 at Southfield's Center for
the Performing Arts.
The art exhibition will
feature Israeli artists Tarkay,
Nora Klein, Raphael
Abecassis, Irit Kalechman,
Yoram Raanan, David
Schneuer, Nitza Flantz,

Stematsky and Chazan.

Soviet Emigre
Seeks Family

Yalena Alpertov, a recent
immigrant to Buffalo from
the Soviet Union, is searching
for family in the Detroit area.
Her great aunt, Hannah-
Vichna Rubin (nee Berkov),
came to Detroit from Vitbesk,
Byelorussia, around 1912
with her three sisters, in-
cluding Yalena's grand-
mother, Bronya Berkov. In the
1930s, Hannah-Vichna mar-
ried a local butcher, Mr.
Rubin, and had at least five
children.
The other sisters were
Dvora-Ester and Cayla.
Anyone with information
about Hannah-Vichna or Mr.
Rubin should contact

Brian Campbell, founder
and president of Trimas
Corp., will receive the Jewish
National Fund's Tree of Life
Award at a dinner Nov. 13 at
Radisson on the Lake,
Ypsilanti.
Proceeds from the event
will enable JNF to establish
a project of 5,000 trees in the
American Independence Park
in the name of Mr. Campbell.
Before becoming president
of Trimas Corp. in 1986, Mr.
Campbell worked as financial
analyst for Walston and Co.,
and as vice president for the
financial firms Dupont Glore
Forgan, Inc., and the Masco
Corp. For his success in foun-
ding and developing Trimas
Corp., Mr. Campbell received
the 1991 Outstanding En-
trepreneur Award from the
University of Michigan-
Harvard School of Business
Club.
Mr. Campbell is a vice
president and director of the
Boys and Girls Clubs of
Southeastern Michigan. He

serves on the business ad-
visory council of the College
of Commerce at DePaul
University, and is vice presi-
dent and director of the Ann
Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
