Institute Nov. 6-7

Hadassah Sets
'Story' Concert

The 44th annual Institute
of the Jewish Federation
Women's Division will be held
7:15 p.m. Nov. 6 and 9:30 a.m.
Nov. 7 at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Dr. Lester Friedman, a
former New York radio film
critic who lectures at
Syracuse University, will
speak. A professor of English
and humanities, Dr. Fried-
man has identified various
stereotypes and images of the
Jewish people, primarily
women, in film.
The theme of the Nov. 6 pro-
gram will be "Stars of David,"
a historical journey through
nine decades of American
Jews in cinema. "From Mol-
ly to Yentl," the portrayal of
Jewish women in film will be
discussed Nov. 7.
Prior to the Nov. 6 lecture,
the first Business .and Profes-
sional Women's educational
dinner of the year will take
place 5:30 p.m. All guests at
Institute are invited.
Institute is being organized
by Charlotte Tessler, chair-
man, and Anita Naftaly,
associate chairman.
On Nov. 7, babysitting will
be available for children ages
2Y2 and older, and luncheon
will be served. There is a
charge for each day.

The Greater Detroit
chapter of Hadassah will pre-
sent "A Visit to the Shtetl,"
featuring three stories by Y.L.
Peretz 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at
Temple Israel.
Harold Orbach, cantor at
Temple Israel and his wife
Evelyn Orbach, artistic direc-
tor of the Jewish Ensemble
Theater, will perform along
with Boris Kazansky, bass-
baritone, cantor of Temple
Rodeph Shalom in Philadel-
phia and Lilia Kazansky,
mezzo-soprano, cantor of Beth
David Reform Congregation
in Gladwyne, Pa.
David Finko, composer of
the music, studied at the Len-
ingrad Conservatory of Music
and now teaches composition
at Yale University.
There is no charge for the
concert.

Host Program

Temple
Sisterhood will host an even-
ing at Morels 7:30 p.m. Nov.
13.
Matthew Prentice, pro-
prietor and chef, will provide
a cooking demonstration of

desserts and coffee will be
served.

Holds Dinner

thodox League, will hold its
annual membership dinner
