W
hat gathering of
white supremacists
would be complete
without considering "The
Jewish Menace"?
"The Zionist Occupation
Government and their
Shabbas goy stooges are
very concerned about the
Aryan movement," one
speaker declares, referring
to the belief that the U.S.
government — or Z.O.G. —
is controlled by Jews.
"There is a small Jewish
lobby. Everything is under
their thumb," one man com-
plains. "We could replace it
with an Aryan lobby."
Surprisingly, many in the
film have given serious con-
sideration to the question of
"Who Is A Jew?"
"Hitler said they were an
attitude," says one.
"We would define Jerry
Falwell as a Jew because he
believes in Israel," says an-
other.
"Ronald Reagan — he's a
proselyte. He's worse than
the Jews," says a third man
(remember, this is 1986).
"He worked for the Jews in
Hollywood and he's still
working for them."
The interviewer asks the
man, who sports a bolo tie
etched with a KKK cross, to
give some examples of
Reagan's fealty to the Jews.
"Of the 33 people he ap-
pointed in his cabinet, 28
were Jews," he responds.
Elsewhere, someone states
that hordes of Mongolian
communists are poised to at-
tack the United States from
Mexico. These absurdities
point to questions larger —
and darker — than just the
threat of hate movements:
Blood in the Face asks the
viewer to search out his own
prejudices.
"I really think it's a
human thing, the fear of
`other,' " Ms. Bohlen said.
"It's something we all expe-
rience." ❑

At the end of the film, Mr.
Miles looks into the camera
and coolly tells his
interlocutors and future
viewers,
"We didn't expect to con-
vert you. We invited you
here to use you in just the
same way you're using us.
We used you to show the
world that we have nothing
to hide."
