Introducing...
The '92
th America, that parts of the
book were "inaccurate" and
"misleading."
In a letter to Prentice Hall
officials, Geoffrey Weill, di-
rector of the international
travel program at the
AJCongress, wrote that the
historical version of political
events in the guidebook was
"notable for its omissions
and an approach which can
at best be described as
distinctly unsympathetic to
Israel."
The international travel
program is the largest single
source of American Jewish
tourism to Israel.
Mr. Weill sent a copy of
Mr. Klein's article to Pren-
tice Hall, which forwarded
the information to the
publisher, along with a re-
quest that Baedeker "make
any editorial changes
necessary to present an ac-
curate and objective history
of Israel" and that the
matter be dealt with "swift-
ly." Dr. Baumgarten then
contacted Mr. Klein and in-
vited him to Germany.
Mr. Weill said that once he
reviews the errata, the
travel program may
reinstate the guide on its list
of recommended books.
Dr. Baumgarten has also
authorized a revision of
Baedeker's Jerusalem, which
has similar errors.
Baedeker's Jerusalem will
be. revamped with Mr.
Klein's assistance.

Back Parley
Prague (JTA) — Friends of
Israel from five European
countries met here over the
weekend to endorse the
Middle East peace con-
ference opening in Madrid
and wish it success.
Prague played host to
members of Israel friendship
societies from Germany,
Switzerland, Austria,
Romania and Czechoslo-
vakia. They adopted a re-
solution supporting the
search for peace in the Middle
East.
It called on all parties in
Madrid to open a "real dia-
logue" aimed at a just and
lasting peace, with security _
between Israel and its
neighbors.
The resolution also ex-
pressed sympathy and ap-
preciation to Israel for ab-
sorbing hundreds of
thousands of new immi-
grants, finding them homes
and work.
Finally, it urged the U.N.
General Assembly to rescind
its 1975 resolution
denigrating Zionism as a
form of racism.
