someone from a hospice come in for
a very ill patient. We will bend and
stretch and do whatever we can so
that the elderly maintain their digni-
ty along with their independence."
Ms. Lipkowitz says that being old
doesn't necessarily mean loss of
talent. She reports that residents help
with the Village newsletter and one
is teaching an art class. Other ac-
tivities at Novi Village include daily
exercise classes, trips to restaurants
and concerts, special events, and
regular happenings such as Friday
wine and cheese.
Franklin Club Apartments, located
in Southfield, offers several options
for living arrangements. A large
number of one and two-bedroom
units are available for those who are
completely independent. Other
stages include the Service Level for
those who require some supportive
assistance such as meals, and the
Supportive Care Level which extends
residential assistance for many daily
activities such as bathing and
grooming.
"Besides the many activities at the
residence such as the Walking Club,
volunteering at the Sara Fisher home,
and trips to Applegate shopping mall,
we also have an Adult Lodge which
offers temporary accommodations
for seniors," says Rowena Howard,
director. "The apartments are com-
pletely furnished and can be leased
short-term or daily. Many Florida
residents use these apartments dur-
ing their summers in Michigan."
The Heatherwood, also located in
Southfield, describes itself as a retire-
ment community for active seniors.
Some of these services include an
evening meal, weekly housekeeping,
scheduled transportation, full-time ac-
tivities director and social program.
Activities for a typical Friday may in-
clude: 9:30 Donuts-n-coffee, 12:00
Transportation to bank, post office:
1:30 Wellness Center; 1:30 Bridge
Club; 2:00 Swimming; 2:30 Residents
Tea; 7:00 Friday Night Poker. The
Community also offers furnished
apartments for guests and rents
rooms when residents give private
parties.
