A New Innovation In WALL UNITS
and ENTERTAINMENT CENTERS

acceptable, trendy, and versatile col-
or is white. White is making a
dramatic comeback in the bath. Dark
colors, almond, and even green, have
come and gone in recent years, yet
white is always in style. "Colors are
much more conservative today," says
Classic Bath's Andrew. "Jazz the
bathroom around the whites and
cream colors."
One popular floor design is
decorative inlay ceramic tiles. A
splash of blue, green, red, or a pat-
terned tile adds contrast to any floor,
but particularly works well on white.
The same design can be repeated or
enhanced on tile alongside the tub.
A vinyl floor is still popular and now
comes in many styles, including
wood and ceramic tile look-a-likes.
Counter surfaces are another im-
portant decision. Solid surface
materials like Corian, Avonite, and
simulated granite brands add a
distinct style. A seamless and flexi-
ble solid surface material is very chic.
With a solid surface counter, for in-
stance, the backsplash is an integral
part of the counter, meaning there is
no grout line and less likelihood of
mildew.

Best suited for a walk-in closet, a
bathroom island offers extra storage
space. A bath island can include a
sink, laundry hamper, storage for
bath products, towel shelves, or
simply act as a border for his/her
sides of the closet.
In a smaller bathroom, another kit-
chen concept is very practical: an ap-
pliance garage. In the kitchen, ap-
pliance garages (often found under
cabinets with a tambour door) store
toasters and blenders, but in a bath
it is great for hair dryers and curling
irons. Designers can recess the
garage into a wall chase or build it
under a cabinet.
In the shower stall, acrylic wall
panels — some look like tile — are
gaining popularity because you don't
need to hand set tile nor worry about
grout lines and staining. Some units
offer built-in-soap and shampoo
holders. Many colors and styles are
available.
