In lieu of a manicured lawn the owners put in wild grass and wild- flowers, and the asphalt drive goes directly up to the front of the house Because they are inexpensive and easy to maintain, narrow slats of white vinyl were used for the home's exterior. "My wife discovered the vinyl and we love it," the owner said. "It gives the house a crisp, clean look." A band of polished aluminum was inserted to add contrast to the vinyl. The bay in front of the house adds angularity to the exterior, as does the stepped back garage. Inside the foyer a silk Oriental rug adds warmth to the white ceramic tile floor. On the right wall is a Max Shaye serigraph in vibrant colors. Next to the steps on the landing are mirrors and a large oil painting, also by Mr. Shaye. To the left are two small bedrooms and a bath: to the right is a compact study that serves as an office. All three rooms have a lake view. A furnace and utility room with The setting offers privacy and tranquility for the owners. FALL '91 19
