For some, the master suite has
become the latest status symbol of
wealth. A palatial design, rich surface
materials, and a built-in T.V., are
frequently found in both new and
remodeled luxury baths. Some
designers have even included a
frescoed ceiling, custom-cut carpet,
and granite counter tops — formerly
found only in the kitchen.
To properly display a luxury
bathroom, space is important. In
remodeling, it's becoming in-
creasingly common to incorporate a
former bedroom (usually the teen-
ager who left for college) into a bath
suite. In new homes, the space is
simply allotted for.
What to do with all that space?
"Everybody wants a big whirlpool
bath," says Mr. Lynn. Or how about
an exercise room? Consider
designating a big corner for a Stair
Master or stationary bicycle. Closet
space, of course, is a must.
One new closet design trend is the
walk-through, rather than walk-in. This
allows a homeowner to enter from the
bathroom and exit into the bedroom.
Widening the hallway that led to the
former bedroom is an ideal place to
implement this design.
