We are pleased to announce Erik Stone heavily damaged or destroyed in the attacks. An estimated 2,000 Jews live in Croatia, mainly in the large cities and towns. Their statement, which spoke of Jewish com- munities existing there for centuries, was an un- qualified expression of loyal- ty to Croatia and an en- dorsement of its aspirations for independence. "Although the present government of Croatia was deliberately depicted as anti- Semitic or neo-fascist, the Jewish Community in Croatia enjoys all rights of a religion or national minority without hindrance or any discrimination," the state- ment said. "The government of Croatia publicly denounced and condemned all neo- fascist and extremist ideologies and organizations that threaten the democratic system in Croatia and its citizens and decided to undertake all necessary legal steps to prevent the spread of such dangers," ac- cording to the community statement. It added: "We express our fullest support to the efforts and declared policy of the government of the Republic of Croatia of building a new and democratic society in which human, political, civil, national and religious rights of every citizen and group will be protected." The Jewish community expressed "great sorrow" that the Jews of Croatia have been cut off from con- tact with Jews in the other Yugoslav republics. The statement was signed by Nenad Porges, president of the council, and addressed to the World Jewish Con- gress, European Jewish Congress, national and international Jewish organ- izations and all affiliated organizations and institu- tions. Mr. Matic said there was great concern about Dubrovnik, an ancient seaport and resort on the Adriatic that is home to about two dozen Jews. The city has been blockad- ed by federal land and sea forces for days. "It is im- possible to communicate with anyone there. We don't know if there is any damage there or not," he said. The Community Council's statement referred to the synagogue in Dubrovnik, which it described as the se- cond oldest in Europe. It did not say to what ex- tent, if any, the synagogue has been damaged. has become a member of our sales staff. Please call Erik for your best deal! BRIGHTON D 8704 W.
