An Instructor in the Seminary's Talmud Department, she
also serves on the faculty of the Drisha Institute, an
intensive Jewish Studies program for women. Originally
trained in comparative literature at Columbia University,
she is particularly interested in literary approaches to
biblical and rabbinic texts.

Following a cholent lunch,
Rabbi Martin Berman will
discuss the passage from the
sidra of the week: "The
maiden was very beautiful, a
virgin whom no man had
known," and a passage from
Isaiah translated in the
Christian Bible as "the virgin
shall be with child, and bear
a son, and shall name him
Immanuel."
The rabbi will explore how
translation of the Bible af-
