The Detroit Friends of Alyn
Hospital will honor Ann and
Leonard Baruch at the an-
nual hospital fund-raising
event 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the
home of Dr. Bill and Florine
Mark-Ross.
Joan Mendelson, national
director of Alyn, will speak.
Rabbi Irwin Groner will ad-
dress the Baruch family.
The event is being chaired
by Arthur Horwitz.

Speaks At Beth El

Archbishop Adam Maida of
Detroit will be the speaker at
Friday evening services 8 p.m.
Oct. 24 at Temple Beth El.
Archbishop Maida was in-
stalled in June 1990. • A
graduate of St. Mary's High
School in Orchard Lake, he
also attended St. Mary's Col-
lege before transferring to St.
Vincent's College in Penn-
sylvania where he graduated
in 1952 with a bachelor's
degree in philosophy. Before
coming to Detroit, Ar-
chbishop Maida served in the
Pittsburgh diocese and as
bishop of the diocese of Green
Bay, Wis. He has served on
various papal commissions
concerning legal matters and
as a consultant to the Vatican
Commission for the Revision
of the Code of Canon Law.
