Machon Lecture For Couples Rabbi Avrohom and Bayla Jacobovitz will lead a series of discussions on contemporary issues facing young Jewish couples. Chris Burke, star of the ABC television series "Life Goes On," will be the guest at a community-wide "Special Needs Awareness Day" 1:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Maple-Drake Jewish Com- munity Center. This program is designed to assist in- dividuals with physical and developmental disabilities and to create community awareness of services available for those with special needs. The day will include hands- on demonstrations of adap- tive equipment, wheelchair sports, an art exhibit, health screenings and information regarding services for in- dividuals with special needs. In addition, there will be in- formation booths from 30 community organizations which provide services for people with a range of special needs. Workmen's Circle Hosts Speaker Melvyn Shewach, partner at BDO Seidman, will speak to the Workmen's Circle at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 in Oak Park. Mr. Shewach will speak on how "Art Makes the Difference" in our society. Mr. Shewach will focus on art in all aspects of our socie- ty through education, econ- omic development and tourism. The presentation will in- clude the "Art Makes the Dif- ference" video produced by Sue Marx. This program is made possi- ble in part by a grant from the McGregor Fund. AJCampaign Meeting Sunday Dr. Aryeh Nesher, a na- tionally known motivational speaker, will address Allied Jewish Campaign volunteers on "Soliciting With Heart" over breakfast, 8:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 20. The gathering, at the Maple-Drake Jewish Com- munity Center's Shiffman Hall, will focus on the needs of the 1992 Campaign. Volunteers can attend an aerobics workout with Myrna Partrich, or hear a talk on "The Joys of Being a Couch Potato" by Mike Duffy, colum- nist for the Detroit Free Press. K
