Lynne Loshbaugh's acrylic
art paintings will be at Mesa
Arts through Oct. 31.
Ms. Loshbaugh's settings
are filled with American
icons: cut-up credit cards,
cigarettes, dogs that look on
with wonderment and amuse-
ment. The dogs are puzzled or
active participants: obedient-
ly sitting in the backseat of
an ancient car, or at the win-
dow, surveying the littered
landscape, ears pinned back
by the wind. Naive barefoot
women, whether primping,
adorning themselves with
rhinestone jewelry or drink-
ing champagne in the back of
a pickup truck with beefy
suitor, betray a female
vulnerability and an effort to
keep on keeping on no matter
what the futility of their
efforts.
Heavily influenced by
Diego Rivera and Henri
Rousseau, Ms. Loshbaugh's
oil and acrylic paintings offer
a strange assortment of
characters bizarrely arranged
to suggest a plot. Her ideas
are stream of consciousness.
It's up to the viewer to fill in
the blanks.
Mesa Arts is located at
32800 Franklin Rd.,
Franklin. Gallery hours are
Tues.-Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sat.
11 a.m.-5 p.m.
