T
he Alzheimer's
Association held a
committee luncheon
at the home of Doreen
Hermelin recently to ad-
dress invitations for the
Chocolate Jubilee fund-
raiser to be held Sunday Nov.
24 at the Ritz Carlton.
A patron brunch will begin
at noon for donations of $100
or more. At 2 p.m. the event
will be opened to the public
with a $25 admission fee.
Participants will be able to
taste and sample scrump-
tious chocolate desserts. "It
is a fantasy land of
chocolate," said Dian
Wilkens, executive director
of the Alzheimer's Associ-
ation Detroit area chapter.
According to board mem-
ber Bluma Siegal , more
than 30 chocolatiers will be
on hand to display their
creations. Some of the
gourmet contributors in-
clude: Opus 1, Les Auteurs,
Gayle's, Palette Pleaser,
Richard & Reiss, Weight
Watchers and Kevin
Paulina. Charles Siegel,
son of Milt and Gloria
Siegel, will fly in chocolates
from his California business,
Attivo Gourmet Confec-
tions. Denise flitch Lites of
Little Caesars announced
that chocolate pizzas will be
available for tasting. "It will
be death by chocolate," said
Mrs. Siegal.
Some of the Alzheimer's
volunteers at the committee
luncheon included: Amyre
Makupson, chairman,
Gayle Burstein; Sandy
Stark, Judy Schneider,
Betty "Bettina" Fenley,
Diane Scholnick. Jack
Gold, one of three men on
the steering committee with
John Bloom and Michael
Bartus, has been an active
Alzheimer's volunteer for
the past six years. "My wife
was an Alzheimer's patient.
She recently passed away," ex-
plained Mr. Gold. When
asked about being one of the
few men on the committee
he replied: "I'm in the
minority."
YURMAN DESIGNS
David Yurman's jewelry
collection was recently on
display at Tapper's as part of
a trunk showing. His
designs began in 1983 as a
single silver-and-gold cable
bracelet with gemstones at
the ends and has evolved
into a collection of more than
200 designs. Some new
designs were unveiled at
Tapper's including the addi-
tion of diamonds, channel
set stones, and an ancient
inspired twist. "Tapper's has
the most extensive collection
of David Yurman designs in
the area," said Amy Rossi,
vice president and
marketing director of David
Yurman Designs.
