George Nyman to Clair
First Membership
Campaign for
Jewish Family, Service

"When you are in need, it is impor-
tant to know there is a friend who can
lend a helping hand. Jewish Family
Service has been that friend to
thousands of people in our community
for over 60 years:' said George Nyman,
recently named to chair the first
"friends" campaign for the agency.
"Last year alone, we served over 3,600
families and individuals, helping peo-
ple cope with all kinds of personal and
family problems," he added.
The agency's Board of Directors
decided to endorse this new undertak-
ing following a recommendation by the
Income Generating Committee in
1990, under the Chairmanship of Gary
Snyder. The initiative has also received
the blessing of the Committee for In-
dependent Appeals of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
The establishment of a membership
drive called FRIENDS OF THE
FAMILY will raise funds to enhance
existing services or initiate special pro-
jects where the agency has determined
that there is a need, but has not had
the resources to respond.
"In these difficult economic times,
Jewish Family Service is called upon
to respond in so many ways. Many of
those who turn to us, find themselves
unable to manage financially due to
layoffs or unemployment," said John
Jacobs, President.
