START AT THE BEGINNING For All Your Maternity and Layette Items N The 6th annual World Food Day "7 Percent Solution" campaign to feed the hungry in Michigan is setting records. This year there are more than 200 restaurants which will donate up to seven percent of their proceeds Oct. 16 (which is World Food Day). For the first time, the effort will encompass restaurants statewide. Several non-restaurant par- ticipants have joined the cam- paign, including two American Legion posts; a nursing center; a food delivery service (Door-to- Door); Meisel/Sysco Food Ser- vices, which mailed flyers to restaurant customers; and Little Caesar's Enterprises, which distributed flyers to employees. This year the Michigan Restaurant Association will act as a co-sponsor and en- dorser of the program. The MRA endorsement has pro- duced at least 26 restaurant participants that might not otherwise have known about the program. Another first- time co-sponsor is the Food Bank Council of Michigan, which will coordinate the dispensation of the funds rais- ed. The Food Bank Council is the umbrella agency that coordinates 15 food banks in the state. Food banks enable a large number of emergency food providers such as soup kitchens and pantries to ob- tain great quantities of food for clients at minimal or no cost. Beth Achim Honors Gamer Congregation Beth Achim will honor immediate past president Abraham Gamer at a Shabbat dinner 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the synagogue. The congregation will join Mr. Gamer's family in showing appreciation for his service to Congregation Beth Achim. For reservations, call the synagogue office, 352-8670. Ray A. Philip Spina, Vice President ERIC HARRIS & STUART ROGOFF 66 QUESTION: I want to sell a commercial building which I own free and clear. The prob- lem is that the buyer does not want to take out a bank loan at today's high rates. Also, I don't care to have a big capital gains tax during this calendar year. What do you suggest? ANSWER: Serious considera- tion should be given to struc- turing transaction for the installment method of report- ing the gain. This would allow you to report the gain propor- tionately over the years in which you actually receive cash payment from the buyer. Installment sale reporting has been simplified. There are no longer any dollar or time restrictions to qualify any sale as an installment sale. 661-4789 $18.95 $23.95 $27.95 We transfer your old movies, prints & slides to video cassette Barbara Kaplan Judi Shefman FULL PHOTO SERVICES INCLUDING: BLACK & WHITE, ENLARGEMENTS, POSTERS 29215 Northwestern Hwy. at 12 Mile Rd. in Franklin Shopping Plaza 7 Days a Week v=i1 Remember SWEETEST DAY BOSSES' DAY HALLOWEEN THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 97
