Fedora Horowitz is the ar-
tistic director and founder of
the Lyric Chamber Ensemble.

cian around the world, and
was appointed professor of

University School of Music.
Shaul Ben-Meir has been a

countries since he began his
studies in Israel and London,
and in Paris with Jean-Pierre
Rampal. Mr. Ben-Meir was a
prize winner in Finland and

Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The concert is sponsored by

Folktown Hosts
Jazz Evening
The Folktown Coffeehouse
will present an evening of
acoustic jazz with Ray
Kamalay and His Red Hot
Peppers 8 p.m. Oct. 5. The
early '30s — prior to the big
band era — brought the hey-
day of small band acoustic
jazz. Ray Kamalay has form-
ed a trio that captures the
spirit and beauty of that era.
They play piano, guitar, and
acoustic bass with super
vocals.
There is an admission
charge.
Folktown is co-sponsored by
the Southfield Parks and
Recreation Department with
the cooperation of the South-
field Public Library.
In 1979, while many other
countries were denying en-
try to Vietnamese "boat
people," Israel offered to
take in 100 Vietnamese
refugees who had been
plucked from the sea by the
crew of an Israeli freighter.
