State and local political and
civic leaders will help
celebrate the first anniver-
sary of the Michigan Jewish
Conference at a reception, 5
p.m. Oct. 15, at the Universi-
ty Club in Lansing.
The Conference serves as a
statewide network to
facilitate the political and
community relations needs of
its 12 member communities
— Ann Arbor, Bay City,
Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids,
Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lans-
ing, Midland, Muskegon,
Saginaw and South Haven.
Formed to establish and
maintain a presence in Lans-
ing and to engage in advocacy
on behalf of the statewide
Jewish community, the MJC
works to inform public of-
ficials about issues of impor-
tance to its members. In ad-
dition, it works to build coali-
tions with other human needs
and social justice organi-
zations.
Ralph Gerson is president of
the Michigan Jewish Con-
ference. Gilbert Ashendorf of
Muskegon, Peter Goodstein of
Flint and Morris Kleiman of
Grand Rapids are vice
presidents. Dorothy Silk of
Lansing is secretary.

The Agency for Jewish
Education will host Dr. Saul
Wachs, professor of education
and coordinator of the M.A.
program in Jewish education,
Gratz College, Philadelphia,
11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in
the United Hebrew Schools
Building.
Professor Wachs will lead
the faculty and board of the
Agency for Jewish Education
in a workshop entitled, "Ex-
amining Our Agenda for
Jewish Education." Luncheon
will be served.
