Technion Hosting Two Special Events A series of special events on behalf of Technion-Israel In- stitute of Technology will be held this month. Detroit philanthropist and world Jewish leader Max M. Fisher will receive an honorary doc- torate from the Technion dur- ing the ATS Crystal Ball on Oct. 5 at the Plaza Hotel in New York. The Crystal Ball will be the highlight of the 50th anniver- sary celebration weekend for the American Society for Technion. The Jackier family of Detroit, represented by Lawrence and his mother, Edythe, will also be honored at the Crystal Ball as Tech- nion Guardians, an honor designated for lifetime donors of $1 million or more. The 43rd annual Detroit Chapter Technion Party will be held 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at ClubLand. The featured speaker will be Shlomo Drori, director of public relations for Israel's Dead Sea Works. Michael Adray will receive the Alvin Foon Memorial Award at the seventh annual induction dinner of the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Nov. 4 at Congrega- tion Shaarey Zedek. In addition to heading his highly successful appliance and photo center, he par- ticipates in charitable activities. Seminary Holds Sunday Event The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, the United Synagogue of America, Michigan Region, and the Conservative Rabbis of Metropolitan Detroit will present the annual Sunday at the Seminary in Detroit 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Oct. 27 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. The event is chaired by Charlotte Tessler. Speakers will be Dr. Samuel Klagsbrun, Dr. Devora Stein- metz and Rabbi David Wolpe. Dr. Klagsbrun is a visiting professor in the department of pastoral psychiatry at the Seminary and associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia University's College of Physi- cians and Surgeons. His topic will be "Ethical Dilemmas." Dr. Steinmetz, an instructor in the Seminary's Talmud department, is serving as the director of Beit Rabban, a new Jewish day school in New York City. She will speak on "The Story of Cain: Civiliza- tion and Alienation." Rabbi Wolpe is an instruc- tor in modern Jewish thought and director of the Ostrow Library at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. His presentation will be on "The Changing Jewish Family."
