FRED M. BUTZEL MEMORIAL AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

"I learned from my mother and my grandparents... that no Jewish home
was complete without its tzedaka box-- that little blue box which signified that
Jews have a responsibility to look after each other."

Jack A. Robinson

The sense of responsibility that Jack Robinson articulated
while he was chairman of the 1984 Allied Jewish Campaign has
continued throughout his adult life. He has chosen a career of
public service -- to his city, his community and his people --
even while he succeeded in other avenues of health care and
business.
Current vice-president of United Jewish Charities and past
vice-president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit,
Mr. Robinson was a founding board member of Jewish Federa-
tion Apartments and served as its president.
Both locally and nationally, he serves on the boards of
many humanitarian, civic, arts and religious groups. Many of
them have honored Mr. Robinson for his leadership and
generosity.
The Butzel Award recognizes quality and length of service
to the Jewish community and to the community at large.
It is presented annually to that individual who demon-
strates the character and integrity in community affairs exem-
plified by Fred Butzel, patriarch of the Jewish community of
Detroit.
