know are forever complain-
ing, full of taynes, or
grievances, against the world
because it does not minister
to them. The next time you
feel this mood descending on
you, remember you may be
suffering from "ingrown ego."
Try this prescription:
Think of someone whom
you can help. Is there some-
one whose loneliness you can
relieve by a visit, is there a
hospital patient you can
cheer with a call? Is there an
overdue note of appreciation
you can write to someone who
helped you over a difficult
time? Is there someone
hungry for a word of
reassurance or encourage-
ment to whom you can speak?
When you are unhappy, try
doing something for some-
body, preferably something
involving some inconvenience
and time. Life will wear a
brighter face when you do
because as you give hap-
piness, it will come back and
bless you.

B'nai Moshe Hosts
Sukkot Program

Congregation B'nai Moshe
will hold a sukkah celebra-
tion and a "walk the land" of
the new Drake Road site 2-4
p.m. Sept. 29.
B'nai Moshe's sukkah will
be erected on the new
building site and following
the celebration guided tours
of the new building will be
lead by representatives of
Turner Construction Com-
pany and Congregation B'nai
Moshe.
The site is on Drake Road,
just south of Maple Road in
West Bloomfield. Refresh-
ments will be served and
children will be invited to
decorate the sukkah.

Shir Shalom
Plans Service

Temple Shir Shalom will
hold a combined Simchat
Torah and consecration
celebration service 7 p.m.
Sept. 28 at the temple.
Young members beginning
their religious studies will be
called to the bimah to receive
blessings from the rabbi, a
miniature Torah, and a con-
secration certificate. An Oneg
will follow the service.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, at 7:00 p.m.

Simchat Torah . . . a festive family
service with the traditional Hakafot
processional where each child carries
a flag. After services, everyone gets a
taffy apple symbolic of the sweetness
of Torah study.

A Fall Learning Experience

October 7-December 19, 1991

A unique opportunity to examine the ex-
citement and relevance of Torah study and
Jewish observance for the modern Jew.

Curriculum Outline

1. HEBREW: A structured course on Hebrew
alphabet and reading Hebrew.
2. CHUMASH: Explore the world's "best
seller" — The Written Torah, the source of
all subsequent Torah literature.
3. TALMUD: Open the pages of the Gemara
and join Rabbi Steinsaltz in this vast com-
pendium of practical law, logical reasoning,
analytical debate and ethical teaching.
4. MITZVOT. A study of precepts, command-
ments, and customs known as Halacha. An
opportunity to learn the how, what and
where of practical Judaism.
5. TEFILLAH: An in-depth study and analysis
of the Siddur, the daily prayerbook.
LEADING THE SERVICES:
6. TEFILLAH
Familiarize yourself with the traditional
liturgy of the Sabbath Mussaf service.
7. KABALLAH: Chassidus — the philosophical
and mystical aspects of Torah as presented
by Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi in his
monumental work, the Tanye.
FAMILY
8. TAHARAT HAMISHPACHA
PURITY: A four-week course on the funda-
mental laws governing a Jewish marriage. A
philosophical outlook as well as a thorough
practical grounding in all of the laws. For
women only.
9. JEWISH COOKING: A hands-on class focus-
ing on traditional and contemporary cuisine
for Shabbat and the holidays.
