backed the 1975 "Zionism is
racism" vote. A spokesman
for the Jordanian Embassy
said Jordan has "no posi-
tion" on overturning the
resolution. Representatives
for the Syrian, Egyptian and
Saudi Arabian embassies
could not be reached for
comment.
Jessica Daher, regional co-
ordinator of the Arab-
American Anti-
Discrimination Committee,
said her concern with the
word "Zionism" lies not with
the existence of a Jewish
state, but with its partner
"The Law of Return."
Enacted when Israel was es-
tablished, that law grants
immediate Israeli citizen-
ship to any Jew.
"For the Palestinian com-
munity, this has been a na-
tional disaster," she said.
Mrs. Daher added that the
Jewish community should
not look to the Arab nations
to overturn the "Zionism is
racism" clause as a gesture
before next month's peace
talks.
"They've already shown
their willingness to come to
a peace conference. I think
that's a pretty big gesture as
