A group of friends confront their hopes and fears in the sum- mer before they go to the Israeli army. The Jewish Feminist Group will hold a Women's Minyan 7 p.m. Oct. 4. Hillel Director Speaks At OU Rabbi Louis Finkelman, director of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundations of Metro- politan Detroit, will speak at Oakland University for the Jewish Students Organiza- tion noon, Oct. 3 at the Facul- ty Lounge, Oakland Center. The topic is "Spiritual Depths!' The talk is open to the public at no charge. MSU Hillel Plans Events B'nai B'rith Hillel of East Lansing will host fall 1991 Welcome Week activities. Hillel will sponsor a Jewish Grad Student Mixer 9 p.m. Oct. 1. There is no charge and free refreshments will be served. A Jewish faculty/student mixer will be held 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2. The first party with a graf- fiti theme will be 9:30 p.m. Oct. 3; there will be a dj and free refreshments and dancing. From Oct. 4-6, Hillel will host a free weekend. On Fri- day from 2-5 p.m. there will be an open house for students to meet the staff, student and community boards. At 7 p.m. will be a free home-cooked Shabbat dinner. Advance reservations are required. On Saturday, there will be a free graduate student coffeehouse with music, poetry and refreshments at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday at 11:30 a.m. there will be a free bagel and lox brunch. The speaker will be Joan Slyker, a social worker in the Ferndale School District. Mrs. Slyker has worked with students of all ages with special needs and their families. The meeting will focus on coping with the emotional and financial stresses ex- perienced by families who have children with special needs. Also featured will be the "Bill of Rights" for parents of children with disabilities, which will be discussed by Mrs. Slyker and handed out after the meeting. A question and answer period will follow the presentation. Participation is open to all Jewish families whose children have any type of special need; including learn- ing problems, physical han- dicaps and developmental disabilities.
