Michigan Medical School. He
is the son of Allan and Betty
Weiner. He graduated from
Farmington Harrison High
School and the U-M, where he
won the Ciba Geigy Award in
1988.

Dr. Michael Morgan will
speak at an opening meeting
of the Board of Governors of
the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foun-
dations of Metropolitan
Detroit 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the
Orchard Ridge Campus of
Oakland Community College,
room J 303. This meeting is
open to the public. Dr.
Morgan's topic will be "The
Modern Hillel Board: Can
Magic and Mysticism Help?"
Dr. Morgan is the director of
the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foun-
dation of the University of
Wisconsin at Milwaukee, a
position in which he has serv-
ed for a decade. He received
his graduate education at
Columbia University, where
he wrote on demonology in
rabbinic literature and
Jewish magic in the Helen-
istic world. He serves as the
rabbi of Congregation
Emanu-El in Waukesha, Wis.
The meeting will begin
with a light supper. The work-
ing part of the meeting will
include a vote on Hillel's
budget for 1991-92, allocation
of funds for renovating the
Hillel suite at Wayne State
University, and reporting on
fund-raising activities. There
is no charge. For reservations,

Apple-Picking

MetroDetroit Hillel will go
apple-picking Sept. 29. Par-
ticipants, including Special
Friends, will meet at 1 p.m. at

Hosts Events

The Hillel Foundation at
the University of Michigan is
planning several events.
Celebration of Jewish Arts
will present comedian Spike
Manton 8 p.m. Sept. 26 at
Hillel. Mr. Manton, a comedy
writer, likes to target the
issues of the day. Tickets are
available at Hillel.
Hill St. Cinema, will pre-
sent Norman Jewison's A
Soldier's Story 9 p.m. Sept. 28.
Denzel Washington appears
in this film about an attorney
during World War II who
fights racism as he in-
vestigates the murder of an
army sergeant. Tickets will
be available at the door.

The Jewish Students
Orgahization/Hillel at
Oakland University will
begin a three-part Thursday
"Lunch and Learn" series
Sept. 19. Rabbi Eli
Finkelman, director of the
B'nai B'rith Hillel Founda-
tion of MetroDetroit, will lead
a discussion of "Spiritual
Depths." The programs are
free and open to the public,
and held at noon in the OU
Faculty Lounge.

Special Friends

The B`nai B'rith Hillel
Foundations of MetroDetroit
are looking for college
students to act as "Special
Friends" for the siblings of
children with disabilities. For

Oakland Century
Holds Benefit

Oakland Century Lodge,
B'nai B'rith, will hold an auc-
tion to benefit Yad Ezra, the
Jewish Food Pantry, 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 24 at the Southfield
Marriott.
The auctioneer will be Max
Sosin.
Every person attending
must donate a wrapped new
item, minimum retail value
of $25. Checks for all bid
items are to be made out to
Yad Ezra.
Following the auction there
will be a dessert afterglow, at
a charge.
