Local & Nationwide Delivery
I consider Ze'ev Chafets one
of the best, most interesting,
most intelligent, and most
outspoken contemporary
Jewish writers. I am therefore
very disappointed that you
have taken your prerogative
to censure Mr. Chafets' con-
troversial views on "ultra-
Orthodox Jews" .. .
Ze'ev Chafets can be a very
articulate spokesman for
"both worlds," and he has not
shied away from expressing
controversial, if not un-
popular, views on varied sub-
jects — Israel's bureaucracy,
the reticence of Israeli
government to defend its
citizens against exploding
Scuds, Mayor Young, and race
relations in Detroit — to
name a few.
In answer to your rhetorical
question, "Where to draw the
line on Jewish controversies?"
— that line is at the truth! Let
Ze'ev Chafets express his
perception of "ultra-Orthodox
Jews" and their behavior as
he sees fit. Should the "ultra-
Orthodox" disagree with his
facts, or consider them
defamatory, I am sure the
Detroit Jewish News will be
glad to open its pages to
lengthy counterarguments on
all sides .. .
