ta is cooking, add the broccoli
florets to a small saucepan of
boiling water and cook 3 to 4
minutes until tender-crisp.
Remove with a slotted spoon
and rinse quickly with cold
water to set the color and to
stop the cooking action. In the
same pan, cook the zucchini
and yellow squash about 30
seconds until tender-crisp.
Drain and rinse quickly to set
color. Add the cooked
vegetables, red pepper strips
and sun dried tomatoes to
pasta. Toss with enough Pesto
Sauce to coat. Serve on
lettuce-lined platter or in a
bowl and garnish with cherry
tomatoes and fresh basil
sprigs. Sprinkle with toasted
pine nuts, if desired. Makes 6
servings.

PESTO SAUCE
21/2 cups fresh basil
leaves
5 tablespoons pine nuts
3 garlic cloves
1 /4 cup chopped fresh
parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1 /4 to 1/2 teaspoon freshly
cracked black pepper
2 13 cups olive oil
4 tablesppons butter,
room temperature
3 /4 cup Parmesan cheese,
cubed or grated
Put all ingredients into a
food processor or blender and
process until they resemble a
coarse puree. Bring to room
temperature before using.
Makes 1 1/2 cups. ❑

Music Competition
At Maple-Drake

The 1992 Fifth Annual
Michigan Young Musicians
Competition has been an-
nounced by the Jewish Com-
munity Center of
Metropolitan Detroit. It is
open to students, grades 7
through 12, of piano, violin
and cello.
The competition will be
held Feb. 2, 1992, at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Corn-
munity Center. The entry
deadline is Dec. 9.
For information regarding
entry application and
guidelines, call Annette Cha-

The music department is
accepting students of piano,
violin, viola, and flute,
recorder and bassoon. Tradi-
tional and Suzuki methods
are being taught by profes-
sional instructors.
