Erte, Kandinsky, and even Picasso. At
Kosins, Mr. Fischer notes that neck-
wear is essentially wearable art. The
Randa Corp. is planning to produce
a Chagall-style crepe de chine tie.
Why the move to bolder colors and
patterns? Because, the experts offer,
in an unexpected answer, men are
buying more of their own ties.
"Whereas women would always
play it safe," Ms. Iglesias says, "men
know what they wear."
For the more avant garde men —
and women — however, florals and
conversationals have already come
full circle.

agamo, whose lead other tie manu-
facturers tend to follow, are already

As every shopper knows, some ties
are much more expensive than
others. But is there a difference in tie
quality?
Yes and no.
In Mr. Andersen's opinion, not
all ties are worth the extra expense.
In one well known line of ties, he says,
"You're paying for the name, for
exclusivity." In fact, he adds, in many
cases, "a store's private label is a
good value. The label is often made
by a designer brand:"
On the brighter side of the buck,
prices appear to have stabilized, and
a tie remains one of the most
inexpensive ways to update an

your wallet.
