Chaplains Issue
Calendar Diary
New York — A unique
publication — 5752 (1991-92)
Jewish Calendar for the
Members of the Military
Community — has been
published and distributed by
the JWB Jewish Chaplains
Council, a service of the
Jewish Community Centers
Association of North
America, to Jewish Military
personnel throughout the
U.S. and bases overseas in
time for the High Holy Days.
The calendar salutes the
75th anniversary of JWB/JCC
Association support for the
Jewish military chaplaincy,
which began in 1917, only a
few days after the U.S.
_ entered World War I.
The publication is a project
of the JWB Jewish Chaplains
Council, in which Orthodox,
Conservative and Reform rab-
bis work together to serve
U.S. military personnel and
hospitalized veterans in a
variety of ways. Rabbi
Abraham Avrech is chairman
of the JWB Jewish Chaplains
Council. Rabbi David. Lapp is
director, and Rabbi Nathan
Landsman is deputy director.
The calendar-diary is a
compact compendium of infor-
mation that Jews in service
and in veterans' hospitals
need to give them a warm
sense of "Jewish family" no
matter where they are
stationed.
The calendar encourages
Jewish military families to
take part in celebrations at
their installations or in near-
by Jewish communities, by
providing, in essence, Jewish
education at a glance. The
JWB Jewish Chaplains Coun-
cil has distributed more than
five million calendar-diaries
since World War II.
