ecutive director of F.R.E.E. "All Jewish life springs from it. This is a new beginning, a life of freedom, including the freedom to be a religious Jew." About 60 Soviet Jewish families, including the Brevermans and Mr. and Mrs. Pogach, have taken ad- vantage of the opportunity to learn more about Judaism. They are regular members of a special Shabbat minyan at the Jimmy Prentis Morris Jew- ish Community Center in Oak Park. Rabbi Yosef Mishulovin, who leads the Shabbat ser- vice, came from Israel to Detroit one year ago at the bequest of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem M. Schneerson. Rabbi Mishulovin, born in Moscow, came to Oak Park to work with Soviet Jews and bring them closer to Judaism. "In Russia, there's no choice, you're deprived of your religion and heritage," said Rabbi Mishulovin, 26. "Here, there's choice, and the opportunity to learn to do." Rabbi Mishulovin said this wedding was the first Or- thodox group wedding in Detroit. Similar weddings have taken place in Toronto, Denver, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Israel. The Lubavitch movement worldwide is teaching Soviet Jews about Judaism and en- couraging them to adopt Jewish customs. "A Jewish, kosher mar- riage is a good starting point," he said. 111 TRUNK SHOWING featuring KENAR leathers • suedes • shearling Featuring all the hottest and latest fashions in town . .
