Kaplan 50th

Pauline and Sidney Kaplan
recently celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary at a din-
ner party at Norms. Joining
in the celebration were their
children Lisa and Steven,

Howard and granddaughter
Joanna from California and
family and friends.
The Kaplans were married
in 1941 in Atlanta, Ga.

Starting September 2, when you arrive on a domestic flight at New York's
La Guardia Airport, an El Al Shuttle van will whisk you to New York's JFK
Airport and your luggage will meet you in Israel. Shuttles will be departing
Sunday through Thursday. Simply check in at the El Al counter at La Guardia's
American Airlines Arrival Termial (next to Carousel C). Get your boarding card
for your flight departing from JFK. Hop on our free shuttle van to JFK. And you'll
be off to JFK. (Due to the short nature of this trip, no movie will be shown.)

Midrasha College
Opens Fall Classes

Registrations are being
taken for a series of courses
co-sponsored by Temple
Emanu-El and the Midrasha-
College of Jewish Studies.
The courses will meet on
Mondays for six weeks begin-
ing Sept. 16.
Cantor Norman Rose of
Temple Emanu-El will teach
a course entitled "Is There
Such a Thing as Jewish
Music" from 7-8 p.m. This
course will survey religious
and secular music of the
Jewish people and the effect
that other cultures had upon
"Jewish" music.
Rabbi Lane Steinger of
Temple Emanu-El will teach
"Reforms in the Bible," 7-8.
p.m. Rabbi Steinger will trace
the biblical movements which
made for change and growth
of the Jewish people.
Dr. Ralph Williams,
associate professor of English
language and literature at
the University of Michigan
will teach "Silent Spots in
Torah" 7-8 p.m. These lec-
tures will focus on the nature
of narrative in Torah.
Rabbi David Feder will
teach "Modern Ethical
Dilemmas: What Would the
Prophets Say" 8-9 p.m. Rabbi
Feder will examine the state
of the world in the last decade
of the 20th century through
the eyes of the classical
Hebrew Prophets.
Rabbi Joseph Gutmann,
professor of art history,
Wayne State University, will
teach "The Art of the Bible"

8-9 p.m. Students will learn
how art reflects the Bible
throughout Jewish history.
Dr. Ralph Williams, lec-
turer at the University of
Michigan, will teach "The
Christian Bible for Jewish
Readers" 8-9 p.m. Dr.
Williams will focus on the
ways in which different
movements expressed and
struggled to appropriate the
meaning of their Jewish
heritage.
All courses will meet at
Temple Emanu-El and are
open to the community. There
is a charge. Advance registra-

B'nai B'rith Women will host
a paid-up membership
"Preview of Fall Fashions"

Square, and David Burke,
commentator of the fashion
show, have planned the pro-
