Continued from Page 10
intentionally celebrated a
made-up holiday called "Lag
B'Omer" in order to interfere
with the local blacks' celebra-
tion of Mother's Day.
What's next? A rumor that
we poisoned their wells?
How many "Hymietowns,"
"Hollywood Jew producers,"
"gutter religions," and now
outright murder do you need
before you say never again?
There was one racially
motivated killing in Crown
Heights. Where are all the
black men and women of good
will who should be marching
to protest this killing and to
protect the Jews? Where is
the "Civil Rights Movement"
when we are the victims?
The sad fact is that there is
no longer a civil rights move-
ment. There is only a black
rights movement, which is
amazingly quiet when the
rights of anyone other than
blacks are violated. Especial-
ly when the violators are
black.
I realize that it feels good to
be a liberal but it seems that
it is time to confront reality
and to stop stoking the ovens.
It is time to reconsider con-
tributions to black organiza-
tions and "civil rights"
groups.

Code Of Conduct
For Journalists
Journalists and editors take
much liberty in deciding
what is proper and what is
not proper to print. They use
their own instincts to make
the decision.
Are Jewish journalists dif-
ferent than their non-Jewish
counterparts?
Editor Gary Rosenblatt
talks about this dilemma in
the Aug. 30 edition of The
Jewish News.
I am disturbed that he
makes the statement, "There
is no Shulchan Aruch for
Jewish journalism, etc.," im-
plying that there is no
halachah in this area.
The Chofetz Chaim made it
easy to look up such ques-
tions and to clarify the
halachah. All Jews, including
media people, are bound by
these laws and should study
and abide by them.
Rabbi Shaiall Zachariash
Congregation Shoinrey Emunah.
Programs Needed
For Converts
I was truly touched by the
Aug. 16 article on "Why
Judaism Must Seek Con-
verts." Having been a convert
for a little over a year, I feel
disappointed that my family
and I were never invited over
for a Shabbat. Just as there
are committees set up to cater
to and help welcome the
Soviet Jews there should also
be a committee established to
help converts in celebrating
Shabbat as well as the other
holidays.
Books are wonderful tools
and classes are great learning
atmospheres but I feel that
experience is the best teacher.
To actually see how someone
else celebrates the Shabbat
would have been in my mind
a wonderful form of tzedakah.
For those shuls who already
have such programs, I corn-
mend you; for those that do
not, I would say please con-
sider the possibility.
My heart and soul have
been saddened by not only
this experience but also with
other issues that have arisen
in my family in respect to
Halachah, and instead of try-
ing to help us solve our pro-
blems we have in a sense been
alienated.
I don't want to be an out-
sider looking in. I want my
family to be a part of one of
the wonderful attributes that
Judaism stands for which is
helping your fellow Jew in
time of trouble whether he is
a proselyte or not.
