Sabbath Retreat At Machon L'Torah Dial-A-Shofar For Shut-Ins Machon L'Ibrah-The Jewish Learning Network of Michigan will hold a "Thank G-d it's Shabbos" program designed to give participants a special Shabbat experience. The weekend will include festive meals and speakers. The theme is "T'Shuva (Return): A Momentary Thrill or Is It For Real?" The pro- gram will begin on Friday evening, Sept. 13, and will conclude Saturday evening, Sept. 14. All lectures will take place at Machon L'Torah in Oak Park. There is a nominal fee. Selichot Dinner, Talk at Kol Ami Temple Kol Ami will celebrate Selichot on Aug. 31. Rabbi Erwin Herman will speak on "Rediscovering Our Sense of Awe — a Yom Kippur Fantasy." He will also speak about the Yanov Torah. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with Rabbi Herman's presentation. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. At 8:15 p.m., Rabbi Herman will speak on "A Yom Kippur Fantasy" and at 9 p.m. there will be a Selichot and Havdalah service. will be Babysitting available. NEWS Suit Filed On Diverted Aid Washington (JTA) — The Justice Department has joined a lawsuit alleging that the General Electric Co. conspired with an Israeli general in the mid-1980s to defraud the U.S. govern- ment of $33 million of military aid to Israel. The civil suit charges that between 1985 and 1988, several high-ranking G.E. employees conspired with Israeli air force Brig. Gen. Rami Dotan to present fraudulent claims for work supposedly done on G.E.-made engines for F-16 fighter planes. The money came out of the $1.8 billion in U.S. military aid that Israel receives each year, much of which goes to U.S. arms contractors. In March, Dotan pleaded guilty in Israel to 12 counts of corruption and bribery, including having illegally acquired $12 million in Defense Ministry funds from the United States.
