The Hillel Foundation at
the University of Michigan
will present the 10th annual
Celebration of Jewish Arts
and Writers Series for
1991-92. This year's line-up
includes comedy, song,
mystery writers, and an ear-
ly music group.
The opening event 8 p.m.
Sept. 26 features Chicago
comedian Spike Manton. A
comedy writer, he likes to
target the issues of the day.
Judith Plaskow, co-founder
and co-editor of the Journal of

Feminist Studies in Religion,
will speak 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13.
Her new book, Standing
Again at Sinai: Judaism from
a Feminist Perspective, brings
20 years of feminist theo-
logical reflection to bear on
the transformation of
Judaism.
Sara Paretsky will speak
7:30 p.m. Dec. 3. Her works
are the basis of the new
Kathleen Turner film VI.
Warshawski, which was
released this summer.
Cantor Gail Hirschenfang
will appear 8 p.m. Jan. 11.
She will perform a mixed pro-
gram of Sephardic music and
Gershwin. This program is
presented with Temple Beth
Emeth.
Writer Tony Hillerman will
speak 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1.
David Grossman will speak
7:30 p.m. Feb. 8. He is known
for The Yellow Wind.
Singer and songwriter Deb-
bie Friedman will perform 8
p.m. March 14. This program
also is presented with rIbmple
Beth Emeth.
In conjunction with the
University Musical Society of
the University of Michigan,
the Waverly Consort will per-
form 8 p.m. March 28 at
Rackham Auditorium.
All events are at the Irwin
Green Auditorium at the
Mandell L. Berman Center at
the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foun-
dation, 1429 Hill St., unless

concert for the 1991 season
