Canada Racist
Remains Free

Toronto (JTA) — White
supremacist John Ross
Taylor, whose conviction on
charges of running a dial-a-
racist message service was
upheld by Canada's
Supreme Court last
December, has yet to be ar-
rested and is openly flouting
the law against hate pro-
paganda, Jewish groups
charge.
The eight-month delay in
enforcing the Supreme
Court's judgment is
"completely unnecessary,"
according to Mark Sandler,
senior counsel of B'nai Brith
Canada's League for Human
Rights.
Further delay, he said,
"undermines the deterrent
value of the jail sentence and
may encourage hate-
mongers to defy the law
without fear of repercus-
sions."
Taylor, 79, was spotted
Aug. 13 in Edmonton, Alber-
ta, acting as chief adviser to
a colleague of the extreme
right, Terry Long, at an in-
quiry of the Alberta Human
Rights Commission. Long,
the Canadian leader of the
Church of Jesus Christ
Aryan Nations, has been
charged with inciting hatred
by burning a cross, among
other things, at an "Aryan
Fest" in Provost, Alberta,
last September.

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Eight
members of Likud's "young
guard" left Aug. 18 on a five-
day visit to Cairo as guests
of Egypt's ruling party.
But they almost didn't go.
The trip came close to be-
ing canceled because the
Egyptian officials selected to
meet them were of no higher
rank than those who met
with a visiting delegation of
the Labor Party earlier this
year.
Likud, after all, is Israel's
governing party.
Foreign Minister David
Levy, who made a successful
visit to Cairo himself last
month, was consulted. He
gave the green light after
the Egyptians set up
meetings with some of their
higher-ranking diplomats for
the young generation of
Likud politicians.
The Likud delegation, led by
Gil Samsonov, plans to pro-
pose that the Israeli and
= Egyptian ruling parties es-
tablish a joint "peace forum"
to promote normal relations
between their countries.
