In ap- propriate instances, people will be invited to spend a Shabbat or other Jewish holi- day meal with Jewish families who volunteer for such ac- tivities. Of course, experiencing Judaism in a Jewish home is hardly the only way to em- bark on Jewish outreach. I cite it only to make it clear that each individual Jew can play a major role in letting the world know that Jews welcome converts. But in- viting non-Jews to Jewish homes achieves an additional goal that is as great as attrac- ting people to Judaism: it en- genders goodwill between Jews and non-Jews. The most public rd organ- ized role must of course be played by Jewish organiza- tions. Through newspaper ads, word of mouth, public forums, etc., Jewish organiza- tions can make it known that the Jews are back in the busi- ness of taking the world ser- iously as Jews, that Judaism, too, has something distinc- tive to offer troubled humanity. For God's sake, for the Jews' sake, and for the sake of a world that in this century produced the monstrous evils of Nazism, Communism, and other ideologies of mass cruelty, we must at least try. I believe, almost "with per- fect faith," that it would work. ❑ ml LOCAL NEWS I'mm Doctor Seeks Local Relatives Dr. Alexander Gorbach of Rockville, Md., is seeking local relatives: Elan (Elarn) Tsirkul (Circle) or his children.
