MJC Offers
Grant Program

The Michigan Jewish Con-
ference will accept applica-
tions in September for fun-
ding from a Litvak Founda-
tion grant for programming
among member communities
outside the metropolitan
Detroit area.
The Litvak Foundation en-
courages Jewish activities
and programs that reach
beyond the borders of a single
community in Michigan.
Proposals should aim to
enrich, support and build
Jewish life throughout the
state. A local funding compo-
nent is required.
The MJC Grant Committee,
which will include represen-
tatives from around
Michigan, will consider as
many proposals as possible
for funding from the five-year,
$50,000 grant.
The Conference serves as a
statewide network to share
information and ideas, ex-
change views and facilitate
the political relations needs of
its 12 member communities:
Ann Arbor, Bay City, Detroit,
Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson,
Kalamazoo, Lansing,
Midland, Muskegon, Saginaw
and South Haven.
It works to develop and
maintain a spirit of unity and
cooperation among Jewish
communities of Michigan to
collectively advance their
mutual goals and ideals.
The MJC was formed to
establish and maintain a
presence in Lansing and to
engage in advocacy on behalf
of the statewide Jewish com-
munity. It works to inform
public officials of issues of im-
portance to its member
communities.
In addition, the Conference
works to build coalitions with
other human needs and social
justice organizations.
Deadline for applications is
Dec. 2. For information about
the Litvak Foundation grant,
call Caryn Nessel, 962-1880.
