After attending Hillel Day
School, where there were no
organized teams, the thrill of
teamwork is one reason to

"It's nice to win. They all
say it's the experience, but
it's really the competition,"

Is Top Golfer

J. J. Modell, of Franklin, a
freshman on the Brown
University varsity golf team
who attended Cranbrook
Kingswood High School, com-
pleted his first season as one
of the top players on the
squad. He helped the Brown
golf team to an 8-3 overall
record including victories
over Boston College, the
University of Rhode Island,
Holy Cross, Northeastern and
Manhattan College at the
Winged Foot Country Club in
Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Mr. Modell capped a first
year at Brown by placing
eighth at the Ivy League Golf
Championship played at the
Bethpage 13lack Course in
Bethpage, N.Y. He carded a 36
hole score of 159, just one shot
shy of earning All-Ivy honors,
to lead the Brown team.
He also was one of Brown's
top scorers at the New
England Division I Cham-
pionship at the Willimantic,
CC in Willimantic, Conn.,
with a first round 78 and was
Brown's top scorer in the
Toski Invitational in
Amherst, Mass., with a first
round score of 77.
