Shaarey Shomayim
Lunch, Learn Series

The Shaarey Shomayim Mi-
nyan will inaugurate a Lunch
and Learn series with its in-
itial Sabbath Seuda following
services Aug. 31. Larry Ziffer
will speak on "The Integra-
tion of Soviet Jews in Israel
and Here in Detroit" (or:
"How well do we do when our
prayers are answered?").
Mr. Ziffer has been director
of planning and agency rela-
tions for the Jewish Federa-
tion of Detroit since 1985. He
is a graduate of Yeshiva
University with a B.A. in
philosophy and rabbinic or-
dination from Rabbi Isaac
Elchanan Theological Semin-
ary in New York. There will
be a charge. For reservations

Beth El Marrieds
Program, Service

The Beth El Married Group
will sponsor a Selichot pro-
gram and service 8 p.m. Aug.
31 at the temple.
The program portion will
feature a showing of Woody
Allen's Broadway Danny Rose
to be followed by
refreshments and a discus-
sion of the themes of
forgiveness, compassion and
redemption implicit in the
film.
Married Group members
and guests will usher in the
High Holy Days with a '
Selichot Service 10 p.m. in
the Maas Chapel.

Chabad Sets
Shabbat Minyan

There is a new once-
monthly Shabbat minyan in
the West Bloomfield-Bloom-
field Hills area under the
auspices of Chabad-
Lubavitch. Prayers start
Saturday morning 10 a.m.
with a lunch following.
The next minyan will be
Aug. 17 at the home of Dr. and
Mrs. Irving Gastman, 1710
Morningside Way, Bloomfield
Hills.
