Red Magen David

Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Charlupski will host the
leadership reception of the Dr.
John J. Mames Chapter,
Michigan Region of American
Red Magen David for Israel 7
p.m. Aug. 21 at Tam
O'Shanter Country Club.
This gathering is in ad-
vance of the testimonial din-
ner dance to be held Oct. 9 at
Adat Shalom Synagogue. Dr.
Morris and Betty Starkman
will be the honorees.
Magen David Adorn,
Israel's National Emergency
Medical, Ambulance and
Blood Service, recruits, pro-
cesses, stores and distributes
blood, plasma and blood
derivatives to all hospitals.
They supply all of the life-
saving blood for Israel defense
forces and operate the only
national fleet of ambulances,
blood mobiles and mobile in-
tensive care units 24 hours a
day.

Economic Forum
Hears Harwell

The Jewish Federation's
Economic Forum luncheon
will feature Ernie Harwell,
voice of the Detroit Tigers,
noon Aug. 12 at the Radisson
Plaza in Southfield.
Mr. Harwell, a Tigers radio
broadcaster since 1960,
recently became the fourth
recipient of the Joe Louis
Award, which recognizes con-
tributions to sports in south-
eastern Michigan. It is spon-
sored by the Detroit Institute
of Arts and Sports Illustrated.
In his last season as Tigers
play-by-play announcer, Mr.
Harwell published Diamond
Gems. His previous book was

Turned to Baseball.
The Economic Forum is
sponsored by Federation.

Council of Metropolitan
Detroit is seeking to develop
a list of Jewish educators who
are currently teaching in
public school systems in
southeast Michigan. The
teachers will serve in an ad
hoc professional advisory
capacity on public education
issues which are of interest to
the local Jewish community.
