Despite its November 1947
resolution to make
Jerusalem an "international
city" under United Nations
administration, in February
1948 the UN Security Coun-
cil declined to organize the
defense of the city against
attacks from Arab League
forces. In May the General
Assembly voted not to be
responsible for Jerusalem
once the British Mandate
ended.

HOME OFFICE DEDUCTION
QUESTION: I understand
there are new restrictions on
taking a home office as a
tax deduction. Could you
explain?
ANSWER: No longer will
the IRS allow you to drop a
briefcase on a table and
deduct the entire room as a
home office deduction.
Now, the "office" must be
used EXCLUSIVELY for
business use. Also, expenses
cannot exceed earned in-
come from the business.
If the office fulfills these
parameters, the amount
deductible will depend on
the office area in relation to
the rest of the house. If it is
10% of the house area, you
can deduct this percentage
of the house's light, heat,
repairs, depreciation, taxes,
etc.
A HOME OFFICE must
be used exclusively for
business to qualify as a
deduction.
