Sybaris Hosts
Four Artists

"Two x Two = Four", a
mixed-media show featuring
fiber sculptor Susan Doerr,
wood-turner Dan Kvitka,
basketmaker Gary Trentham
and ceramic sculptor Gret-
chen Wachs, will be at the
Sybaris Gallery July 26-Aug.
24.
Susan Doerr works in
mixed-media, but the
primary focus of her sculpture
is handmade felt.
Oregon artist Dan Kvitka
specializes in turning vessels
and sculptural forms in exotic
hardwoods. His technique is
called "hollow turning." Us-
ing bent tools he hollows out
the vessel through a small
opening leaving very thin
walls.
Gary Trentham's baskets
recall historical forms, the
quivers of Modoc and
Klamath Indians. He uses
waxed linen, a reductivist
material that is the simplest
of bulding cords.
Ceramic artist Gretchen
Wachs received her B.F.A. in
1974 from Alfred University
which is nationally recogniz-
ed for its ceramic department.
Stenciled shapes and mark-
ings interact with three-
dimensional form.
Gallery hours are Tues. -
Sat., 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by
appointment.
