shopped at Water Tower, a
large, indoor shopping mall
on Michigan Avenue. They
strolled around the Old
Town Art Fair, taking in the
sun and sculpture.
One can't always count on
incredible climate or a
sunny sky on a group trip,
but Jody Greene, a
downtown Detroit legal sec-
retary and fellow traveler,
said the people were key.
"I think these trips are a
great way to meet new peo-
ple. You're taking the trip
for the same reason — to
have fun. And if you meet
someone special, that's
extra." ❑

with the intention of having
a good time.
"It's great when I meet
someone I'm interested in
but, if I don't, I don't," he
said. "I don't care as much
when I'm on a trip. I just go
to have a good time."
Singles trips don't have to
involve white water. A few
weeks ago, the JCC spon-
sored a singles trip to
Chicago.
Harry Pevos and Mike
Silverstein, two volunteers
who've planned singles ac-
tivities before, organized a
weekend of rock and roll in
the Windy City. In the
beginning of July, 15 singles
between the ages of 25 and
35, flew to Chicago. "The
basic idea of the weekend
was to have a loose, casual
trip," said Mr. Pevos. "We
just wanted to have a good
time, to meet some nice peo-
ple, to hang out and to have
fun."
The group ate at Ed
Debevic's, a popular Chicago
restaurant. They played pin-
ball and drank Black Cow
milk shakes and fizzy
chocolate phosphates. Later,
they danced the night away
at the Hard Rock Cafe and
Division Street discos.
They also took a boat tour
of Lake Michigan and
